| The Morehead City Planning and Inspection Department performs administrative, technical, and professional work
in coordinating planning and building inspection activities. The Department's hours of operation are 8 a.m.
to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Planning Division reviews new development proposals, conducts research,
proposes draft ordinances, processes annexation requests, coordinates all grant requests and coordinates growth
management issues. Administration of the Unified Development Ordinance [a compilation of all land use regulations,
including the zoning ordinance and the subdivision regulations] is also under its purview as is upkeeping the City's
computerized mapping system. The Planning Division also coordinates all activity and requests for the Planning Board
and Zoning Board of Adjustment. The Planning Board meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The Board
of Adjustment meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. Both meetings are held in the Council Chambers
located at 202 South 8th Street, 2nd floor. The Building Inspection Division is responsible for all activities
relating to building construction. This includes review of construction plans, issuance of building permits,
administration of the minimum housing codes, demolitions,
condemnations, etc.
