Gerald A. "Jerry" Jones, Jr. was elected Mayor of Morehead City in November, 1999. Prior to Mayoral election Mayor Jones served as a member of the Morehead City Council for four (4) years. He was recently re-elected to his fifth 2 -year term. He is a native of Morehead City and is CEO of BJ Associates of Morehead City.

The Mayor is the Chief elected official of the City. The Mayor presides at all meetings of the Council. The Mayor is not allowed to make motions nor does the Mayor cast a vote except to break a tie concerning matters before the Council.
