                     Philosophy/Purpose
      The Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department seeks to offer an athletic program that
      participants will learn and appreciate the fundamentals of various games and sports. We
      teach the values of physical fitness, sports skills, knowledge of rules and regulations, 
      and the value of team participation and sportsmanship. Our number one goal is that 
      participants have fun.

      Registration fees:  City Residents--$20.00
                          Non-City Residents--$25.00
     Jerseys for basketball and t-shirts and hats for tee ball and coach pitch baseball are included in
     the registration fee. Volunteer coaches are used and local groups and businesses are used as team 
     sponsors. 
          SPONSORED CLASSES AND SPECIAL EVENTS
  Purpose/Goals
  Municipal recreation and educational classes for Morehead city are provided and give a comprehensive and 
  varied program of activities, services, and resources for its citizens at all levels, from the pre-school 
  to senior citizens. It is our department's desire to provide a recreation experinece designed to meet 
  constructive and worthwhile goals of the individual participant, groups, and the community at large.
  After School Program
  The department sponsors an after school program for children from Camp Glenn Elemetary and Morehead City 
  Primary. The program is from 3:00-6:00 PM, Monday through Friday at a cost of $25.00 per week.  For more

  Aerobics
  The aerobics class schedule is as follows:   Monday - Wednesday/Friday mornings from 9:00 -10:00 AM. Cost

  Dance Classes

  NCSF 8K Race
  The Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department sponosors this race in conjuction with the North 
  Carolina Seafood Festival held on the Morehead City Waterfront the first weekend in October.  This 
  race attracts over 200 runners each year.  Contact Craig Lands at 252-726-5083.
  Visits from Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny
  Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny makes his round to visit homes, schools and offices in Carteret 
  County. To make reservations call Susan Drake at 252-726-5083.
  Pancake Breakfast with the Easter Bunny
  The Easter Bunny is the special guest at this annual event held the day before Easter.  An Easter 
  Egg hunt is held at the Community Center directly following the breakfast.  For more information

  July 4th Celebration
  The waterfront in Downtown Morehead City comes alive on the 4th of July with fireworks and a street 
  dance that follows.  Over 5000 people enjoy the festivities.  For more information call 252-726-5083.
  Sports Tournaments
  At various times during the year the Department participates and sponosors basketball, softball, 
  tennis, and table tennis tournaments.  These events are held at various locations in the county as 
  well as other cities and towns.  For more information call 252-726-5083.
  Carteret County Senior Games
  The department serves as one of the senior games host sites and also helps coordinate the events and
  facilites that are used during the week long competition.  The games attaract about 135 participants 
  and 75 volunteers each year.  For more information call 252-726-5083.
  Saturday in the Park Concert Series
  Various musical groups offer free concerts each summer from Memorial Day through Labor Day.  These 
  concerts are every Saturday evening from 7:00 pm - 8:20 pm.  For more information, please call Susan

  Summer Camp Program (From:  6/16/08 - 8/8/08)
  The Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department sponosors an eight-week Summer Camp Program for
  children ages 3-12.  Over 200 children participate in the Monday-Friday Day Camp Program.  A staff of 
  over 20 handle the daily activities and field trips. The department promotes fun recreational and
  educational activities inthe daily program of games, sports, arts and crafts and field trips.

  Other programs are offered at various times during the year and are held at the Morehead City 
  Community Center, 1600 Fisher Street.  The department is open 6 days a week, Monday - Friday 8:00 am -
  8:00 pm, Saturdays from 1:00 - 6:00 pm.  The facility houses weight room, gameroom, gym and meeting 
  room that is open to the public forsupervised gym and/or drop-in program.  For more information call

                     PARK LOCATIONS AND SITES
  The Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department have seven parks throughout the Town of Morehead City.   
  Sugarloaf Island is located across from the Morehead City Waterfront.  This park has a Nature Trail and 
  Restrooms and floating dock.  Access by boat only.

  Jaycee Park is located at 9th & Shepard Street.  Staging for concerts, picnic tables, and swings.

  Rotary Park is located on Mayberry Loop Road. This park is equipped with play equipment, soccer fields,
  basketball, walking trail, and bathroom facilities.

  City Park is located on 10th and Arendell Street. This park is equipped with play equipment, a large gazebo
  and bathroom facilities. Reservations for large groups and shelter use is required. There is a $25.00 charge
  for the use of the gazebo.                             
  Snooky Wade Park is located on 8th and Bay Street. This park has no play equipment.
  Piney Park is located on Bridges Street and 27th Street. This park provides shade and picnic area. 

  Shevans Park is located on 16th Street and Evans. This park is equipped with tons of play equipment,
  tennis courts, two shelters, and bathroom facilities. Reservations for large groups and shelter use is 
  required. There is a $25.00 charge for the use of the large shelter. 

  Newport River Access Pier is located at the base of the Morehead Beaufort High Rise Bridge on Radio Island.
  The site consists of a 300 foot long fishing pier, along with a boardwalk which connects to the handicapped 
  accessible pier, bathrooms and a parking lot.
  The Morehead City Community Center is located at 16th and Fisher Street. The facility provides a weight room
  and gym. We also have a gameroom with a pool table, ping-pong table, and foosball table. A large multipurpose 
  room is available to accommodate large functions for a $20.00 an hour fee. Reservations are required.
